Aagamchhen and Degu Taleju temples to be reconstructed through users' committees

Kathmandu, September 29: The Aagamchhen Temple located in Basantapur Durbar Square and Degu Taleju Temple located in Patan Durbar Square will be reconstructed through the users' committees.

A meeting of the executive committee of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) decided to reconstruct Aagamchhen and Degu Taleju temples through the users' committees.

The Japanese government has agreed to provide financial assistance for the reconstruction of these temples damaged by the April 2015 earthquake.

At the initiation of the NRA, the local elected representatives, local community and the Japanese government have already agreed to reconstruct Aagamchhen temple through users' committees.

The reconstruction of Aagamchhen temple had been stalled due to lack of consensus on whether to reconstruct it through the bidding process or through the users' committee.

Although the agreement has been reached on reconstructing it through the users' committee, agreement has not been reached on whether to prop the upper part of the temple using timber or with a jack, in the course of reconstruction.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NRA Sushil Gyewali said, we should not linger too long on technical issues as safe reconstruction of the temple is the most important thing.

Lalitpur Metropolitan city had demanded for the reconstruction of Degu Taleju temple through the users' committee.

The decision taken by the NRA Executive Committee mentions, "The reconstruction of Degu Taleju Temple located inside the Patan Protected Monument Zone through the Degu Taleju Temple Users' Committee formed by Lalitpur Metropolitan City has been approved."
